Title: Divorce Sucks
Author: t_l_p_d
Genre: …all of them?
Rating: Eventually M/NC-17 but for now … Pg or Pg-13 -ish
Summary: Response to Whiteraven1606’s really awesome prompt! (see part one)
Status: WIP
Warnings: Cursing/profanity, mpreg, slash, threesome, alive!George, notnice!Winona, OC’s (mostly there as filler characters, none are REALLY important), an insane amount of contractions that will probably decrease once the Vulcans are on the scene (a little Vulcan humor there :D), others to be determined
Authors Note 1 (see no more ppps and ssss XD): Ok, I didn’t realize how short this was going to be (and I am sick so blah) and I have no college/work Mon/Tues (although Tues is my brother’s birthday) so I will be updating before Tuesday and then again on next Thursday (possibly twice over the weekend b/c there might be another short part in there ... I can’t read my handwriting).
2: As always (so last time and this time) feel free to comment with questions or concerns or corrections or suggestions or ... something related (or not related, whatever).
3. This is kind of an interlude chapter. I may go into more detail after I’ve finished the fic (with like a 2.5 or something) but for now, this is it :) /totally unintentional reference there. My teenage cousin must be rubbing off ... bad mental image!/
4. I just realized I probably don’t say this anywhere in my lj or fanfic.net account but I am female but I have never been pregnant so any mpreg or pregnancy things are what I have heard or read. (Feel free to correct but I figured that stereotypical information was ok in this case because it will really only be mentioned in a couple of parts and briefly in some of those - like that it happened ... Jim has to know someday doesn’t he?).
5. You are all welcome that I did not make this a cliff hanger. I hate those so when I got the idea (you’ll see), I just kept going. (please ignore the medical reasoning that sounds a lot like b.s.)
“So I hear you’re having my love-child?” Chris’s voice startled George out of his revere.
George groaned and turned to the communications vid, “Been talking to Winona then?”
“Heck no! You know I hate the bitch. I heard it from Kelly Jones who heard it from Mark Wall who heard it from Lou Depart who heard it from blah blah blah.”
“I see. Blah Blah Blah must be a reliable source of information then.”
“Right. I see you’re in the moody phase of pregnancy -”
“You son of a -”
“I actually didn’t believe until I turned on the vid and saw your bump there and don’t insult my mother, she has ears everywhere.”
Both George and Chris paused and then talked a little quieter, “Sorry, Chris. I’m really stressed out and I have no idea how women do it! My back hurts, my ankles are swollen, and I *still* have morning sickness! And it’s not always in the morning! Sometimes I get sick in the middle of my shift. It’s ridiculus!”
“And it doesn’t help that you have no one,” Chris’s voice was soft and soothing. Sometimes George wondered why he and Chris didn’t work out and then he remembers Chris is a couple of years younger and a student and he has Sam and Winona and now this little one to think about.
“No, it doesn’t. I still don’t understand how Winona can just walk away. Did you know she signed over custody of Sam? I have no idea what to tell him. Not to mention what to tell my parents! They’ve always loved Winona and now we’re divorced.” George trailed off.
“Everyone is treating me like I am made of glass and,” George sighed, “I can’t prove it but I think someone’s been trying to sabotage me. Some of my reports have mysteriously disappeared. Either I don’t get them or the people I send them to don’t get them. Plus, some of my stuff is missing and other little things. It is all harmless but I’m worried about if it escalates.”
Chris’s face steadily got more and more worried, “George, have you told anyone about this?”
“No,” George grimaced at the look on Chris’s face, “Yeah I know but I have no proof. There’s nothing and it’s not like it’s life threatening or anything.”
“If this continues, I want you to tell Captain Robau,” Chris overrode George’s protest, “This is serious George. It’s not just your safety at the moment. You have to think about the baby and Sam. Your crazy ex gets custody if you die.”
“Actually custody goes to you right now,” George blinks at Chris’s astonished look, “Is that alright? I rewrote and filed my will already but I can redo it if you don’t want...” George let it trail off at the fierce look on Chris’s face.
“Don’t you dare. I would be honored to look after your kids. Sam’s already fantastic and I am certain that the baby currently residing in your belly will be just as brilliant,” with each word Chris leaned forward a little more and his voice turned into almost a command.
George was left with no doubt as to Chris’s feelings. Eyes a little misty, he said, “Thanks Chris.”
Chris drew his hand up behind his neck to over his head and then down his face, “No problem. You know you’re like the best mentor ever, right? I totally wouldn’t have passed physics without you.”
The conversation turned to harmless and everyday matters.

A week later, George was in the hospital and had almost lost the baby.

“What?” Chris sat down hard, “But we talked last week and he was fine. A little worried about harmless sabotage but otherwise fine.”
“It looks like whoever did that escalated or this could be something else entirely. We’re not sure although Captain Robau is tearing apart the ship. He’s really worried about George.” Henry wiped at his eyes tiredly, “Someone or multiple people slipped some ground up nuts into his soup. It was tomato this week so the taste was totally masked. You know how allergic he is, it’s a wonder he didn’t die. It’s a miracle that Lieutenant Jamison was there - she’s allergic to citrus so she always carries around epi-pens.”
Chris merely nodded, “How are they?”
“Well, George is stable but still unconscious. Between the stress of the pregnancy and the divorce and who knows what else Winona has done and the anaphylactic shock, his body is having a hard time of it. The baby ... the baby’s fine but who knows what this has done to his development. Most likely, the poor child is going to be allergic to everything under the sun or, well, not sun as we’re in space but oh! You know what I mean!”
“Yeah, I do. I have class in ten but keep me updated? Please?”
“Of course Chris. You’re one of George’s best friends. One of his only friends. And you’re now his medical proxy. When we have time to contact you that is, if not, me or his attending physician has leave to do what is needed to keep the baby alive and then to keep him alive.”
Chris gaped, “I’m his medical proxy? When did this happen? Stupid question. Nevermind. Why am I his proxy?”
“He trusts you kid. Plus you know his kid. You love Sam and Sam adores you so I guess George just figured you would know what to do,” Henry shrugged.
“That man...” Chris pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Go to class kid.”
